Imagine having to take a test EVERY day of the week. Now imagine that it is always open book, you pretty much have all of the answers and that you need to score about 75-80% each time in order to pass. Sound daunting? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t but either way this is exactly what maintaining consistent good nutrition is! Each day that comes brings with it the opportunity to make decisions which will directly affect your health. These small exams all need to be passed at about a 75-80% rate for the week in order for you to make the progress that most people seek.
What grade would you give yourself?
Yeah, I know, we all KNOW what to do with our nutrition to be successful but for some reason we are choosing to NOT always do it. But do we really know what to do or have we heard so much information over the years that we are too confused to even begin? I can see how knowing and doing have become easily confused as our access to information has increased by the minute through advances in technology. One day you should eat high protein and low carb, the next day you should eat high fat and the following week you should eat a combination of the three…just slightly confusing I would say.
No matter what you have heard over the years you’ve inevitably tried one or many of the things that you’ve read or have been told about. The question is…”How good at any of them were you really?” Would you achieve the 75-80% passing grade level of consistency on your daily exams? Medical conditions aside, it really doesn’t matter which method you choose to employ to be successful. What truly matters is that you commit to it, track it to verify its effectiveness and make any necessary changes over time to continue making progress.
Yes, I made that sound incredibly easy and on paper it is just that. Unfortunately, it is far from it in reality. Our success is stuck somewhere between life being unpredictable, the emotion that comes with it and the unrealistic timelines that we place on our goals. Maintaining good health is a marathon. Planning, adapting and giving yourself some room to pull back from time to time will all be required as you make your way on your journey.
