From the very first time that you come into the gym and based on your goals you are taken through the Inbody Body Composition analysis. It is designed to tell you everything that you do and do not want to know about your body. From your body fat percentage to water intake to just your simple body weight. You will get a lot of information to decipher. The main thing to take away from the information is that it is based around body COMPOSITION and is just ONE measure of your progress!
From the very first test we use the information to set goals based not solely on your weight but possibly more importantly body fat percentage and visceral fat level which are better predictors of your overall health.
-
- Your body fat percentage is simply the percentage of fat your body contains. If you are 150 pounds and 10% fat, it means that your body consists of 15 pounds fat and 135 pounds lean body mass (bone, muscle, organ tissue, blood and everything else).
-
- Visceral fat is body fat that is stored in your abdominal cavity. Carrying excess body fat in this region places you at greater risk for chronic diseases including heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.
Now just because we don’t focus on body weight alone doesn’t mean that it is not part of the equation of your overall health. Body weight is merely ONE of the measures that complete the equation of how healthy you are and can be. Each time that you complete an Inbody test it should be looked at just like a report card that you’ve received for the work that you’ve done since the last test. If you get better results than your previous test, then keep up what you have been doing as it is working. If your results are not ideal or no change has occurred and you have been honestly changing for the better, then it is time to reevaluate what you are doing and make some changes.
It just doesn’t get any simpler than that as we know well before we step onto the Inbody machine if we have been consistent enough between tests to expect tangible positive results. The key is to set REALISTIC expectations and put in CONSISTENT work and the results that you are expecting will come. We as humans are not expected to be perfect and attempting to chase perfection will inevitably lead to disappointment. It all starts with a solid plan as HOPE is not a strategy!
