Step 1…Set a goal or goals
Step 2…Devise a plan for meeting your goals
Step 3…Begin training and changing your nutrition
Step 4…Meet your goals
Now that all sounds easy but even when we are trying to be perfect that is sooooo far from the truth. There are so many obstacles to list that can derail your plans that I refuse to list ANY of them. The fact of the matter is that in order to go from Step 1 to Step 4 successfully there will undoubtedly be a Step 1a or 2a or 3a at some point.
The question is not how can I avoid the inevitable side steps, miscues or hurdles that will litter my path but how will I deal with them? I can give you numerous methods of how to deal with any fitness or nutritional setback that may come your way but again, I will not. Instead I am going to keep it quite simple because you are not expected to be perfect in the execution of your health and fitness plan in the first place.
Just do the best that you can at all times and never beat yourself up about it.
There have been times when I’ve worked out and I was totally not in it or I made a less than optimal nutrition choice. I wanted to quit countless times during the workout but I didn’t because I knew that even at the end of a less intense workout I would feel much better than not training at all. I call those days ‘check off days’ as you were still able to check off that you got your workout in even though you may have struggled through it.
There will also be times when you have more food or drink than you normally would or decide to throw caution to the wind and have the Pu-Pu Platter. That doesn’t mean just go off the rails the first time that your perfectly crafted fitness and nutrition plan goes awry. It does mean that if life throws you a curve ball you may have to swing and miss one time and maybe even strike out completely before you figure out how to either let the next pitch go by or hit it out of the park.
We all have those days but it is not the day that defines us but how we react to that day that makes us better.
